Our Story

Haras Cantareira was founded in 1993 in the hills of São Paulo, Brazil, with a single conviction: that the Mangalarga Paulista deserved a breeding program devoted entirely to its preservation and refinement.

Three decades later, that conviction still guides every mating decision we make. We breed a small number of foals each year, selecting for correct marcha, athletic structure, and the calm, willing temperament the breed is known for — never for volume.

Our horses are raised on open pasture, handled daily, and prepared with patience. Veterinary care, nutrition, and welfare are not line items here; they are the reason our bloodlines hold their value generation after generation.

A Connoisseur's Breed

Why Mangalarga Paulista

Rarely seen outside Brazil. Never crossed outside its own studbook.

Born in São Paulo

The Mangalarga Paulista was shaped in the state of São Paulo from Iberian foundation stock, developed by breeders who prized elegance, presence and a smooth, ground-covering gait.

A Closed Studbook

After its formal separation from the Mangalarga Marchador, the breed established its own studbook — and closed it. No outside crossing is permitted. Every registered horse traces back within the breed itself.

Thoroughbred & Arabian Influence

An early infusion of Thoroughbred and Arabian blood brought refinement, stamina and an athleticism rarely found in gaited horses — without ever compromising the marcha.

Rarely Leaves Brazil

Its population is far smaller than that of its internationally famous sister breed, and very few individuals have ever left the country. Most American gaited-horse buyers have never met one. That is precisely the point.

Felini combines exceptional movement with outstanding morphology, approved with the classification ÓTIMA (excellent). He opened his show career at the 43rd National Mangalarga Paulista Expo in October 2021, taking 2nd Reserve National Champion in his very first outing. At Haras Cantareira we believe in him enough to have entered him in the toughest classes at a national show. Simply a painting of a horse — the images speak for themselves.

Ouro Mangabaia

Stallion · Mangalarga Paulista

Foaled
December 4, 2019
Height
1.64 m
Color
Palomino

A true OURO — a golden stallion, son of NETUNO RAA and therefore paternal half-brother to the Grand National Champion of marcha and overall, Quartzo da Santa Cecília. His dam is the great DORITA MANGABAIA, a National Champion and winner of several motorcycles in the marcha cups she contested. Together with Eurec Mangabaia, Dorita was one of the mares incorporated into the donor team of Haras EFI, which so loves and values this golden coat. Ouro is a very gentle horse of excellent morphology, with great proportion between the parts — fine head, neck, shoulder, back, croup, angulation and structure. On top of that, he carries a saddle gait of real quality, which qualifies him as a future breeding stallion of the Mangalarga.

Export

The Export Process

On arrival in the United States, horses complete a minimum seven-day quarantine at an APHIS-approved facility. Before departure, each horse is blood-tested for dourine, glanders, piroplasmosis and equine infectious anemia. Scheduling, testing and flight availability typically place the full timeline in the range of several weeks.
